A large and strong virion you don't want to mess with. He's the king of the Murray Pack, which is the most successful so far and the first to entirely exist of D614G mutants. Matthias deeply hates humans and their cells.

Dolichocephalic skull (but face looks broader due to muscles and M proteins), standard length snout, horn on snout, dog nose, upper canines protrude from under upper lip, longer lynx-like style M proteins around face, large upright standing ears.

Standard length neck, slight dewlap, long M proteins on front of chest (looks like a sharp fin-like protrusion), saw-shaped protrusions on chest and legs, rib grids (only as adult!), large cat-foot shaped paws, sharp claws on all paws, webbing between all toes, pointy protrusions on elbows, visible back vertebrae (only as adult!), scattered peplomers on neck and shoulders, three long rat-like tails, longer hair on behind and under the tail base.

Slit pupils, red colored rim on lower eyelids, yellowed teeth (all teeth are canines, except for the front teeth, and teeth in the back are naturally crooked), two long spikes on each side of the neck, three whisker dots on each side of snout (he has whiskers, but I just never actually draw these on him),torn in right ear, whole bite out of left ear, black lips, gums and mouth inside are a very dark shade of the tongue color.

Personality

Matthias is very sweet with his pack-mates and wants the best for them. He's the very first coronavirus king who got rid of his kind's way of ruling over a pack, in order to replace it with a form of monarchy that suits him better. He abolished all cruel punisments that his former parental pack practiced, as well as the ritual culling of jester virions. Now, his jesters are spared and allowed to live a normal life inside the nest. He loves to drop every task to play with pups for a bit, and to relax together with the entire pack whenever he thinks a break from doing the usual daily virus stuff is needed.

Matthias is the total opposite if it comes to interactions with human cells. He has zero respect for them and he likes to play tricks on their minds or to lure them to their deaths. He would never hurt the children of cells though, given he loves kids in general.

Demeanor & Habits

He holds his head and tails upright, ears close together and pointing forward when walking. This shows overall authority.

Ears stand further away from each other when he shows friendliness or affection (especially to pups).

When really nervous, he tries to hide it by casually scratching himself. When scared, sad, panicky or completely freaked out, he wraps his tails around his body and legs. He started doing this after the death of his father and never being conforted by the virions of the Hannah Pack (his own tails probably replicate the feeling of having his father's paws wrapped around him).

Particularities

He has schizoaffective disorder, which is a type of manic depression with some symptoms similar to schizophrenia. Though, as long as he's happy and everything goes as planned, this disorder will stay in a dormant state. When something happens that may trigger him, symptoms become noticeable.

Backstory

He was born as a kindhearted virion, who never intended to hurt anyone, due to a mutation called D614G. His father, the very first D614G-mutated virion, wanted to keep him that way so he made sure his little boy never came in contact with their evil minded congeners. Loki taught Matthias everything about nature, that every living creature is connected to each other and that he only needs to show love and respect to others. According to Loki's lessons, infecting a cell is okay, as long as it only happens once, because it kills cells and their host will fall ill. Not having a wish for a child and thus not infecting a cell would've been fine too, because having pups is not an obligation in his eyes. The reason behind Loki's lessons is a vision he had, which featured an adult Matthias as the cause of a major, worldwide pandemic (good soul Loki wanted to prevent it from happening and thus protecting humans from any harm).

One day, Matthias's father died and his grandfather found him crying by his father's dead body. Lucius decided to take him with him and thus the little pup was adopted and raised by the Hannah Pack and he slowly got indoctrinated by the 'how a coronavirus should behave' propaganda and his heart got tainted. Though, his tyrannic grandfather was actually crazy and wanted to wipe out ALL life but viruses, in order to create a paradise for viruses alone. Matthias adopted his grandfather's ideals, but edited it because wiping out all lifeforms would result into the death of viruses as well (viruses NEED hosts to survive!).

Though, being indoctrinated by his former pack, he still loves nature and animals, but he has seen how humans treat the world and started to develop hateful feelings towards them. Now thinking that humans are bad (and either forgetting about or ignoring his father's lessons about showing love and compassion to every life form) Matthias decided to only wipe out the entirety of mankind, so Earth will be like before humans started to invade and destroy nature and all animals will be able to reclaim their old territories again. His species lived in animals before, so once humans are gone, they will be able to adapt to other animal hosts once again

Trivia

Matthias was the very first SARS-CoV-2 character that I created (before I created Virus Attack!).

His species's overall design is based on a hellhound or ghostly black dog, with a bit of the xenomorph incorporated (the exoskeleton-like protrusions on body, and similar behavioral patterns and abilities). As an individual character, Matthias is more specifically inspired by Wepwawet, as some of his actions are similar. He's based on the king shepherd dog, giving him his wolf-like shepherd dog appearance.

In early development, Matthias was actually named Korona. Though, I felt like that was kinda lazy and decided to change his name. I chose the name Matthias because I find it pretty.

His official family name is derived from the Sarbecovirus sub-genus within the Coronaviridae (coronaviruses) family.

He speaks with an English accent (Cockney dialect).

Matthias is my comfort character.
