The world in Rebel Virus's universe is the same as ours, though it is set during the years 1959 to 2012. The only difference with our world is the fact that giant, anthropomorphic and highly intelligent microbes are the dominant species and humans never evolved.

These 'Microbe People' originate from the same country as where they've been first discovered in the real world, except for the species of which the origin is unknown, and all cells.

Cuisine is more based on a microbe's diet. An obligate carnivorous species strictly eats meat, while a facultative carnivorous species prefers meat, but may also eat other food sources. There's also omnivorous species, herbivorous species and species that prefer fish (pescivorous), insects (insectivorous) etc. Most countries still have the same cultural dishes thanks to the fact that every country's population consists of more than one species, all with different diets.

Languages are also the same. Languages that are spoken by characters in Rebel Virus are English (both UK and US) and Italian.
