Go back to SARS-CoV-2

D614G Mutant

The D614G mutant is a new and highly adaptive form of SARS-CoV-2. The mutation is a change from aspartic acid (D) to glycine (G), on the 614 residue of the glycoprotein (somewhere on the teeth). The mutation mainly caused the virus to become better at binding to angiotensin converting enzyme 2 receptor (ACE-2) on its cell hosts, as well as better being transmitted from human to human and developing a higher virulence. In Virus Attack universe, this mutation also had some side-effects on both the virus's behavior and its intelligence, as mutated virions are far more social, experience more emotions and feelings, are able to get attached to loved ones and mourn their deaths, and they seem much smarter. The ability to use telepathy is also one of the side-effects found in D614G mutants.

The D614G mutation is found in all new variants.

Traditions Introduced, Edited Or Removed By Mutant Variants, And Thus Not seen In Wild-type

The mutant form has either introduced its own new traditions or it edited or completely ditched some of already existing coronavirus traditions. One tradition which has been edited, is the Birth Right Law, which goes 'The king's first-born will be leading heir by default'. It says nothing about what should be done when a virion doesn't want to be the future king, or if the word no is even accepted in general. Most likely not, given non-mutated virions are by far more strict and they have less desire for free will due to their instincts, and thus just follow the rules without any complaints. But mutants do have more desire for free will, so they may refuse to follow certain rules. King Matthias's first-born son didn't like the fact that he has to succeed his father, so he asked to be leveled down to a lower rank. This was the moment King Matthias decided to change this law to 'The king's first-born will be leading heir by default. BUT he may choose to be leveled down to prince and be replaced by an another virion if, he wishes so'. This was the first ancient old tradition that a mutant virion ever decided to edit.

Never seen before traditions introduced by D614G mutants are the celebration of births and funerals, as no other coronavirus bothers to do this. This is most likely because, unlike non-mutated species, mutant SARS-CoV-2 virions are capable of feeling joy and sorrow. They feel happy when a fellow pack-mate just has his pups, and they cry when a loved one has died. Celebrating the birth of pups is expressed by gathering around the father and his pups, and congratulating him. Not all virions will come to crowd the father and pups, as this would be too overwhelming and stressful. It's usually only the king, lead-heir and the virions closest to the father who come to see the newborns. A funeral is something that every virion will attend at. The king starts to howl, and all other virions will join him. This is how everyone pays their respects to the dead. The howling heard during a funeral sounds different than their usual howling. It sounds deeper and literally like the virions are about to burst out in tears. King Matthias introduces these new traditions once his pack has more members.

King Matthias completely gets rid of the way non-mutated kings reign (with an iron paw an no love). Instead, he reigns with more love and compassion for his pack, and he provides them of safety, securety and well-being in return for their great service. King Matthias works WITH his pack, not the pack for him, as seen in other coronaviruses. All mutated kings born after King Matthias also make use of this new form of monarchy.

The Tainted?

When born, every D614G mutant virion is kind and respectful to everybody by default... yes, even cells! That's because of the side-effects of their mutation. But, if said virion is raised by wild-type virions, he becomes 'tainted' as his heart and mind is filled with hate and wild-type propaganda. When a tainted virion has pups, he also fills the hearts of his own pups with the same hate and propaganda, causing a long line of tainted D614G virions. D614G virions was basically supposed to turn SARS-CoV-2 into a milder cold virus (hence their natural friendliness and higher transmitability), but this oppertunity was spoiled by King Lucius once he began indoctrinating young King Matthias, causing the virus to take the pandemic path instead.

There are also virions who are strongly open-minded and act rebellious against the ideals of their tainted pack-mates, because everything they've been taught seems wrong to them. Prince Meech is such a virion.

King Matthias And The Murray Pack Legend

After his death, King Matthias has been seen as a major hero for about two years (hundreds of years for virions during that time). During this period, many virions were named Matthias as a homage to him too.

Though, for today's virions, the times have changed. King Matthias is no longer seen as a hero by most virions, because his 'outdated' ideals and beliefs don't suit them anymore. Yet, he's still seen as a patron of children and compassion (or love), as they didn't forget about the legend's parts where King Matthias introduced their current more humane form of monarchy, and how he would protect children (no matter if said children were virions or cells). They basically decided to only think of his kinder side, yet not forgetting about all the bad he has done.

The story of legendary hero King Matthias and his pack is still retold sometimes, but only by the tainted. To the tainted, King Matthias is the patron of leadership and strength. This may also be the reason why some fathers still name their pups after him. They probably believe that their hero's spirit would bless their kids, simply because he feels flattered.
